Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information IITM Code Vistara (https://iitmcodevistara.com) collects, why, who sees it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 12 October 2026

1. Who we are

IITM Code Vistara is operated by Aniket Raj, an independent developer in India. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of the site. You can reach us at support@iitmcodevistara.com.

2. Information we collect

You can read the notes, use the calculators and browse the subject lists without an account. We collect information only in the following ways.

  • Account details. When you create an account we store your email address and, if you sign up with a password, a salted hash of it (never the password itself). If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, profile picture link and Google account identifier from Google.
  • Verification codes. To confirm your email we send a six-digit code. Only a hash of the code is kept, and it expires after 10 minutes.
  • Practice activity. The papers you open, your answers, your scores and the questions you check are saved against your account so that the progress page can show them.
  • Messages you send us. If you use the Contact form we store your name, email address, the topic, your message, an optional rating and up to three screenshots you attach, so that we can reply and fix the problem.
  • Technical data. Like every website, our server sees your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. The IP address is used to limit abuse (for example, repeated login attempts) and is not used to identify you.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful (see section 4).

3. How we use it

  • To create and secure your account and to sign you in.
  • To run the practice papers, grade your answers on the server and show your progress.
  • To reply to your messages and correct mistakes you report.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix bugs.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so that we can improve it.
  • To show advertising, where advertising is enabled (see section 5).

4. Cookies, local storage and analytics

  • Session cookie. We set one signed, HTTP-only cookie that keeps you signed in and protects sign-in from forgery. It is needed for the site to work and is not used for tracking.
  • Local storage. Your browser keeps small preferences, such as light or dark theme and your language and view choice in the notes. They stay on your device.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information about your visit, such as the page, your approximate location and device. We use the reports to see which pages are used; we do not combine them with your account details. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the session cookie you will not be able to stay signed in, but the notes and calculators will still work.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

We may show advertisements on this site through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to this site or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

If advertising is switched on, visitors from regions where the law requires consent before advertising cookies are used (for example the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom) will be shown a consent message through Google's tools, and can change their choice later. We do not sell your account details to advertisers, and we do not give them your practice results.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. It is shared only with the services that help us run the site:

  • Google, for sign-in with Google, Google Analytics and (where enabled) Google AdSense.
  • Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database.
  • Our email provider, which delivers verification codes and replies.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from fraud or abuse.

7. How long we keep it

Account details and practice history are kept while your account exists. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and for a reasonable time afterwards. Verification codes expire after 10 minutes. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account details and practice history.

8. Security

Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, the connection to the site is encrypted with HTTPS, the answer key is never sent to your browser before an answer is graded, and sign-in attempts are rate limited. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable care of the data we hold.

9. Your choices and rights

You can ask us at support@iitmcodevistara.com to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account and the data attached to it. We will act on a verified request within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the GDPR), you may have further rights, including withdrawing consent and complaining to a data-protection authority.

You can also sign out at any time, clear the site's cookies and local storage from your browser, or opt out of personalised ads as described above.

10. Children

The site is meant for students of a degree program and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, write to support@iitmcodevistara.com and we will delete it.

11. Links to other sites

The site may link to other websites, such as Google's pages or the official IIT Madras program pages. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

13. Contact

For any question about this policy or your data, write to support@iitmcodevistara.com or use the Contact page.
